12/19/2023 0 Comments Makakalikasan Movement welcomes the focus on agriculture & climate change in the COP28
The Movement is particularly encouraged by the declaration on sustainable agriculture signed by over 130 countries and the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization's (FAO) food systems road map.
These initiatives align closely with the Makakalikasan - Nature Party Philippines position on sustainable agriculture, as outlined in their policy on "Sustainable Agriculture.". The Makakalikasan Movement and the Party recognizes the implications of these developments in the further advancement of organic agriculture in the Philippines, in line with the party's position on sustainable agriculture. The emphasis on shifting to 100% organic agriculture, conserving soil, prioritizing food security for Filipinos, and supporting small farmers and fisher folks resonates with the Movement's commitment to environmental sustainability and the well-being of local communities. The Movement is optimistic that these global and national efforts will contribute to the promotion of organic agriculture, food safety, and nutrition in the Philippines, while also fostering agricultural biodiversity conservation and reducing the environmental impact of food production. The Makakalikasan Movement looks forward to actively engaging with relevant stakeholders and government authorities to ensure that the momentum from Cop28 and the FAO's initiatives translates into concrete policies and actions that promote organic agriculture and sustainable food systems in the Philippines. The Movement remains dedicated to advocating for practices that safeguard the environment, support local farmers, and prioritize the long-term health and food security of the Filipino people.
